Do you really think Obama sent all of this own messages on Facebook and via email? If not, does something get lost because the messages aren't real? Or are they? How about the CEO who pays someone to blog for him or the companies that hire companies to tweet on their behalf. Do people care who sent it as long as it looks like it is from someone they trust? Are we creating new Wizards of Oz that are not exactly what people believe them to be? Or is that just part of the new tolerance for stuff that is just good enough?

I think you raise some good points. It will be interesting to see if the security issues can be overcome and if users really demand this ease of use. I do have some concerns about puttlng all information in one spot, but maybe that is not well founded.

I used to host with Dreamhost. Then I got frustrated (as you did) but after giving them pass after pass, I switched. I researched many hosts but finally settled on Pair.
Here's the most important advice I can give: find a host with limits. The old adage, "if it's too good to be true, it probably is" absolutely holds true with web hosting. If a host doesn't have reasonable limits on disk usage, bandwidth, and especially CPU cycles or memory usage, you will suffer from the tragedy of the commons on a shared box. That is a guarantee.
So find a host with limits you can live with.
